Philip McGarvey - Farningham, Horton Kirby & South Darenth

I have been District Councillor for Farningham, Horton Kirby & South Darenth for 2 terms now, since 2003, vice-chair of SDC’s Performance & Governance Group (audit committee), and currently on SDC’s Development Control (Planning) Committee.

Treasurer to a local history society (FELHS) and a photographic club (EPiC), I still find time to be Parish Administrator (part-time) to Christ Church, Bexleyheath and serve on the PCC and PC in Farningham (Parochial Church Council and Parish Council).

In addition to working with SDC and KCC officers to get extra road sweepings for South Darenth; additional hatching painted in the A20/A225 Eynsford Road junction (“Phil’s Hatch”); mediating in Planning issues (including Horton Kirby Paper Mills and Farningham Mill sites); helping pressurise KCC and Fairview to finally get Horton Road re-opened this Spring (after inexcusable delays); arranging snowploughs for stranded residents and attending nearly all Farningham and HK&SD Parish Council meetings, I do find some spare time to play guitar (sometimes even in tune), collect coins (we numismatists don’t eat fish on Thursdays), write hundreds of Limericks, and sort out IT problems for people.
