It is with great regret that I inform you that I received a letter from Sir Michael Fallon indicating that he does not wish to be re-adopted as the parliamentary candidate for Sevenoaks & Swanley.
As you may know, Sir Michael Fallon has served as an MP for more than 31 years including 22 years as the MP for Sevenoaks & Swanley. Having carefully reflected over the summer Sir Michael does not now wish to commit to a further five-year Parliament.
Although understandable given his long-service, this is a great shame for the Association and for our Party. Sir Michael has served this constituency, and this country, with dedication and distinction, also holding one of the great offices of State as Secretary of State for Defence.
Sir Michael and Lady Fallon will continue to live in the constituency and look forward to supporting his successor and the Association in every way possible.
The hunt for an equally able and distinguished new Member of Parliament for Sevenoaks & Swanley will now begin and I have already written to the Party Chairman, James Cleverly, to commence this process
